Hurricane Melissa makes its slow and terrifying approach on Jamaica today, Oct. 28, as a Category 5 storm.

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in western Jamaica early Tuesday afternoon as a powerful Category 5 storm and the strongest ever to directly hit the Caribbean nation of 2.8 million people.

"I ask our people not to let their guard down, to maintain discipline and continue well protected," Miguel Díaz-Canel says in a post on X.
