This is a male Atlas moth. They can have a wingspan of a foot (wingtip to wingtip). The females will emerge from their cocoon and attract a mate using pheromones. Males will track down a waiting female using their feather-like antenna as amazing and selective radar. They will mate and the female will then fly off to lay over 100 eggs on various trees in tropical Asia, where it is from.
