A communication milestone I talk about often is when dogs start using words to comment, not just request. It is an important shift and sometimes hard to notice because we are so used to responding to every word with an action. This moment with my daughter shows it so clearly. While Stella was resting in her bed, my daughter pressed “bed” and then said her version of “Stella.” She was not asking for anything. She was simply noticing and sharing what she saw.
